STEAM

(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math)

The Education Foundation partners with the Summit School District to bring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) programs to Summit. STEAM experiences include after-school and summer programs with a focus on technology, engineering, coding, career technology opportunities for students. From 2014-2017 EFS partnered with  Freeport-McMoRan-A Climax Molybdenum Co., Colorado Mountain College, and Project Lead the Way to provide engineering camps and courses which led to the school district integrating robotics instruction into the curriculum k-12.

Supporting Teachers

The Eileen Finkel Innovative Teacher Award grants annually provide funding to teachers with innovative classroom programs and creative projects.  Creativity and innovative approaches are highly valued in these awards as well as the use of technology in the classroom. Teachers and administrators submit proposals that are evaluated and awarded based upon need, innovation and impact on students.

Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to Summit High School seniors and all graduating Snowy Peaks High School seniors. EFS directors serve as mentors to high school students, who will be the first in their family to attend college.

Fostering Community

EFS works closely with each school’s PTA/PTO to support their school-based initiatives and fundraising.

EFS also offers grant writing assistance and partners to fund teacher requests to the Eileen Finkel Innovative Teacher Award Program.

EFS maintains close contact with community members to inform them about opportunities to volunteer in Summit School District classrooms and to participate in the activities of the foundation.

Innovative Reading

The Summit Books for Kids program increases access to books for children in grades 3-5 at selected schools whose families do not have the means to purchase the books. Children who have books to read at home become proficient and enthusiastic readers.

The Author and Poet Visits highly engage students in the writing process. Children hear from poets and authors about the extended work with many revisions that it takes to write a book. The authors and poets partner with teachers to help students learn how to write about what they know. The visits are directly connected to the reading, writing, and poetry curriculum standards.

Summit High Career and Technology

Summit High School students learn skills and prepare for entry-level jobs in welding, bike and ski tech, and medicine. Students also learn coding and engineering with opportunities for solar roller and robotics competitions.

Pre-Collegiate Field Trips to visit Colorado Colleges/Universities

Pre-Collegiate students are the first in their family to attend college. The Pre-C program in grades 6-12 supports these students and their families throughout the college application process, including visits to statewide college fairs.
